• Despite concerted targeting of universal upper Secondary school completion rates by UNESCO and other global organizations, there are at least 16 countries in sub-Saharan Africa with hardly any poor, rural young women completing Secondary school.
• In Zambia, where 65% of people live in rural districts like Kazungula, formidable barriers still exist for girls to attend Secondary schools. 
• For girls living in rural areas, the long distance to a Secondary school presents a challenging financial and physical barrier. 
• Girls who do not go to Secondary school often end up working in the fields to contribute to the household income. Furthermore, parents marry off their girls in their early teens to ease the economic burden on the family.

• The key to success of the Kazungula Academy for Girls (“the Academy”) will to be to establish an expansive, modern, technologically advanced campus, to include classrooms, laboratories, computer labs, dining facilities, boarding dormitories, teacher and staff housing, auditorium, as well as playing fields and courts.
• The modern, advanced campus, combined with competitive salaries, and extensive benefits, will attract some of the top teachers, educators, and athletic coaches in Zambia, ensuring the Academy’s projected academic and athletic success.
• The strategic plan of the Academy is to admit 75% fee-based students to cover the operating costs of the school, which would then allow enrollment of 25% of the student body to be girls from the rural villages of the Kazungula district. These girls would receive full or partial scholarships from the Academy, based on household income levels.

HIGH TEA GET TOGETHER

A greeting and fellowship time will include a light meal of African-themed food and refreshments before the Trivia game, where tables of 4-6 people will compete with other tables to win the prize for answering the most questions accurately.

We will close out the afternoon with a brief presentation followed by an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the Kazungula Academy for Girls.

There will also be an opportunity to partner in Edith’s amazing vision for transforming a generation of girls from some of Zambia’s poorest villages.
